Oliver Calvo

Reading United AC is pleased to announce the appointment of Oliver Calvo as Head Coach of one of the club’s Men’s Reserve Teams, which competes in the CASA Soccer League’s Mid-Atlantic Division. Calvo joins the Reading United technical staff with an extensive background as both a player and a coach at the youth, collegiate, and professional levels.

A Reading and Berks County native, Calvo currently serves as Head Coach of PA Classics U16/17 Boys and as Head Coach of the Reading High School Boys Soccer program. In those roles he has built a reputation for developing young players and for competing at the highest levels of the local and regional game.

As a player, Calvo enjoyed a distinguished career that spanned the academy, Division I, Division II, semi-pro, and professional ranks. A former FC Revolution Club player, he went on to represent the Philadelphia Union academy, the University of Louisville, Millersville University, the Philadelphia Fury, and PSC. His career also took him overseas, with playing experience in Spain and Sweden.

“Oliver is a tremendous addition to Reading United,” said Casey Moore, the club’s Sporting Director. “He’s a Reading native with a deep understanding of our community and a playing résumé that very few coaches in this region can match. His experiences at the academy, collegiate, semi-pro, and professional levels — both here in the United States and abroad — give him a unique perspective that will benefit our reserve squad and the broader Reading United pathway. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the staff.”

Steve Small

In addition to his duties as the Assistant Coach for the WPSL women’s team, coach Small takes the reins of RUAC Women’s U23 Reserve Team as head coach in 2026.  The Women’s U23 Reserve Team complements Reading United AC’s broader structure, which includes the senior WPSL women’s team (one of the largest women’s leagues in the world).

Coach Small joined the Reading United WPSL coaching staff in 2025 after serving as assistant coach with the Alvernia University Women’s Soccer team under Head Coach Amanda Bezner (also an Asst. coach for Reading United’s WPSL team). While taking over the reigns of the reserve team, he will continue his role with our WPSL team. He brings 20 years of collegiate coaching experience, including his current role as Head Men’s Coach at Penn State Berks. Previous roles include assistant coach at Millersville University, Elizabethtown College and Alvernia University, and a head coaching stint at Slippery Rock University. Beyond college, Small also brings over 15 years of youth coaching experience, where he has led teams to state and regional championships, along with national qualifiers and helped send over 100 players on to play at the collegiate level.

During his time at Millersville, the Marauders secured one PSAC title, made four conference final appearances, and earned five NCAA berths—including one trip to the NCAA Final Four. At Elizabethtown, the Blue Jays won two conference titles (with five finals appearances), made two NCAA appearances and won its 900th game (3rd most in NCAA history). Most recently in his first season at PSU Berks, Coach Small led the program to the postseason and their first playoff win in program history (NCAA era).

Coach Small holds a United Soccer Coaches National License and Director of Coaching License, as well as a USSF Grassroots License. He is a 2006 graduate of DeSales University with a degree in Sport Management.
