United Look To Inch Closer To Division Title Against Red Bulls

After a quick turnaround in games from Wednesday night, Reading United (8-0-2) is back this Saturday inside Gurski Stadium at 7pm for their second matchup of the season against New York Red Bulls U23 (3-3-3).  Reading will have a chance to clinch the Mid Atlantic Division and a spot in the Eastern Conference Playoffs for a second straight season with a victory and a Long Island loss or tie.

Saturday night will play host to our annual Hometown Heroes Night, where Reading United pays tribute to all of the service members, firemen, police officers, and first responders. With appropriate ID, all hometown heroes will receive free admission into the game.

In their first matchup back in May, United pulled out a 3-2 victory on the road. After Red Bulls were able to tie up the game early in the second half, Kalil ElMedkhar’s late winner gave Reading their first ever road victory over the Baby Bulls. The victory was Reading’s fourth in five unbeaten matches against their counterparts to the northeast, including a 2-1 victory over New York in the PDL Eastern Conference Championship last year at Gurski Stadium.

Since the last time Reading and New York faced each other, Reading has been sweeping the competition. Reading came away with seven shutout games up until Wednesday night’s matchup with a 1-1 draw against Long Island Rough Riders. The tie broke a streak of 22 consecutive victories at Gurski Stadium, but continued a streak of 28 regular season games without a loss, the equivalent of two years of unbeaten play (24-0-4).

On the other boot, the Baby Bulls have been in the lower half of the division standings this season, after digging themselves into a hole with three losses in their first four matches. They’ve been able to right their ship over their next five, going unbeaten for the better part of June. However, looks can be deceiving, as their last three games resulted in dropped points, including a disappointing 1-1 draw against last-place Evergreen.

Come out and support the team and all of our local responders inside Gurski Stadium at 7:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased for $5 online at readingunitedac.com/tickets and will jump to $10 at the gate on game day.
