United Look To Take Season Series Against RCNJ
United looks to remain undefeated against Real Central in their fifth meeting
READING, PA (July 9, 2022) – Reading United continues its home stretch to finish the USL League Two regular season, with its third and final matchup against Real Central New Jersey on tap for this evening. A 7:00 p.m. kickoff awaits at Alvernia University for both sides.
Reading (4-3-5, 17 points) is coming off of an entertaining 1-1 stalemate against West Chester United last weekend. A 23rd minute goal from Ike Hollinger was matched a minute later, conceding the only goals of the contest. The draw virtually ended Reading’s chances of reaching the postseason, but also ensured West Chester would not repeat on top of the table – falling seven points behind Ocean City with just two games left of the schedule.
Reading and Real Central New Jersey have already met twice this year, with the first contest ending in the teams’ third consecutive draw in three meetings. Reading broke that streak of tieson June 29 – a match that saw Sam Hershey strike at the death to secure all three points on the road. United overcame two separate one-goal deficits as Alex Hajj netted the first tying goal, then assisted on Talla Faye’s second game-tying goal.
RCNJ (4-6-2, 14 points) finds themselves three points back of Reading with two games to play, hoping to even its record to finish its sophomore season. Two consecutive losses, including the one to Reading, nullified the second-year squads hopes of postseason. A 1-0 defeat to Ocean City on July 1 marked the team’s fifth loss in seven games. Reading will need to be mindful of Stas Korzeniowski, who leads the team in goals (7) and assists (5).
