USL2 Game Recap: Reading United AC 8 – 2 PA Classics
READING, Pa — Reading United AC delivered its most explosive offensive performance of the season Saturday night, defeating PA Classics 8-2 in the men’s edition of the Keystone Derby at Alvernia University. Seven different players contributed to the attack as Reading United improved to 4-5-1 with its fourth victory of the USL League Two season.
Reading United controlled much of the opening 20 minutes, generating several dangerous opportunities through Adrian Kang Hagman before finally breaking through in the 21st minute. Quinn Olcott provided the opening goal in spectacular fashion, unleashing a long-range strike from outside the penalty area that found the upper corner to give the home side a 1-0 lead.
PA Classics answered in the 29th minute when Jack Brown’s effort took a deflection off a Reading United defender and into the net to level the match.
The tie lasted only three minutes.
Olcott turned provider in the 32nd minute, slipping a perfectly weighted pass behind the defense for Kang Hagman, who calmly finished to restore Reading United’s lead before halftime.
Reading United seized complete control after the break.
Keane Hazeldine extended the advantage just two minutes into the second half, finishing Brennan Lamont’s assist to make it 3-1. After Nathanial Kovalcik preserved the lead with a goal-line clearance, Reading struck again in the 56th minute when Kang Hagman drove to the end line and cut the ball back to Olcott for his second goal of the evening.
Reading United continued to pour on the pressure in the 61st minute. Hazeldine threaded a pass back from the end line to Santiago Apololaro, who finished from inside the penalty area to make it 5-1.
The home side added another seven minutes later when Kovalcik converted off a well-worked short corner from Isaac Stanley and Brennan Lamont to push the advantage to 6-1.
PA Classics found the net in the 75th minute through Nate Hovan, but Reading United responded three minutes later with an unassisted goal from Michiharu Takanashi. Louis Guffroy capped the evening in the 87th minute, blasting a long-range strike into the back of the net to complete the 8-2 victory.
Reading United improves to 4-5-1 on the season while PA Classics falls to 3-6-3. Reading United next faces Eagle FC on Tuesday, June 30th at Alvernia University. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
