United Hit The Road In Search Of Season Sweep Of Hammers
Wednesday evening’s match features the first and last place teams of the Mid Atlantic Division

LEESBURG, VA (June 19, 2019) – After extending their home regular season winning streak to 21 games, Reading United will head to northern Virginia to take on Evergreen FC for the second time this season. Reading will be in search of their 27th consecutive regular season game without a loss, and their 15th without a loss on the road during the same stretch.
The last time Reading met up with Evergreen, Reading took the victory with a 3-0 score at our home field, John Gurski Stadium. Rok Taneski, Simon Becher, and Jeremy Rafanello all found twine during the seventh consecutive United victory over the Hammers. The game will feature the proverbial bookends of the Mid Atlantic Division; Reading is dominating at the top of the table with 22 points, while the visitors sit at the bottom with two.
Reading continued their torrid pace to begin the 2019 season, dropping Ocean City by two goals at home on Saturday. Simon Becher and Felipe Hideki punched in rebounds to push Reading’s Mid Atlantic Divisional lead to nine points with only six games remaining. Jahmali Waite turned in another dazzling performance in net, securing his fifth shutout in as many games.
Although the Hammers haven’t been able to taste victory this season, they have managed two ties – both against Cedar Stars Rush. In Evergreen’s last match against Rush on Saturday, the Hammers overcame a 3-0 halftime deficit, netting three unanswered goals in the second half to clinch a home point.
For Reading, Simon Becher stands out as the lead goal scorer with five in his four starts. Becher has been a force when in the starting lineup, netting all five of his goals in his four starts. After punching in the game winner against Ocean City this past weekend, the St. Louis University forward ranks tied for fifth in the nation in scoring.
Reading will have the weekend off to prepare for a mid-week clash at home against Long Island Rough Riders. Long Island held Reading to a scoreless draw on the road, accounting for United’s only dropped points of the year. The June 26th match-up will feature Latin Heritage Night at Gurski Stadium, with kickoff set for 7pm.
