Unbeaten Reading United ready for talented New York Red Bulls

Reading United face their toughest test to date when they welcome the New York Red Bulls U-23 squad to town for a Premier Development League Mid-Atlantic Division showdown at Exeter’s Don Thomas Stadium on Saturday, May th 28 . Kick off is set for 7:00pm.

Reading United (2-0-0) are in fine form as they head into the pivotal match with New York (1-1-0). The hosts are unbeaten in league play this season and have yet to concede a goal in 390 minutes of play. Reading currently sit second in the Mid-Atlantic Division with six points, but hold two games in hand over the division leading Baltimore Bohemians. The Bohs have taken seven points from their first four matches.

Defense has reigned supreme for Reading this season. United’s defensive unit is anchored by Philadelphia Union Academy products Will Campbell and Billy McConnell. The tandem have done well to protect goalkeeper Steffen Kraus, who has turned away every shot he’s faced this season.

Reading offense came alive in their 5-0 road win over Evergreen FC. Paul Marie struck for two goals en route to being named to the PDL Team of the Week, while last season’s leading goal scorer Brett Campbell got on the scoresheet with his first tally of the season.

The visitors come to town with a roster loaded with talent. The Red Bulls feature the dynamic midfield tandem of Arun Basuljevic and Christopher Lema, two of the top prospects in the Premier Development League. Highly regarded goalkeeper Eric Klenofsky brings PDL experience to the Red Bulls defense.

So far this season, the Red Bulls have yet to find the form that propelled them to the 2015 PDL Championship Game. New York stumbles into Reading on the back of 2-1 loss at home to Baltimore. The Red Bulls have just one win in three contests this season, scoring a 2-1 victory over local rivals Jersey Express.

Reading’s next home match will be friendly against fellow Philadelphia Union affiliate Bethlehem Steel FC. The match will be played as part of the Philadelphia Union Festival.
