Keystone Derby Saturday
Women at home for Leg 1 of the inaugural Derby. Men chasing their first win on the road at Eagle FC.
Saturday Is Derby Day
One historic home opener. One road trip with something to prove.
Happy Friday, Reading United family. We hope you’re writing this week off as a win: short workweek, hopefully a little sun, and a whole lot of soccer ahead.
Quick reset on where we are. The women are humming along at 2-0-0, with nine goals across their first two matches and a top of the Golden Boot table that already looks competitive. The men, meanwhile, are still hunting for that first result, but if you saw Wednesday’s game in West Windsor, you know the breakthrough is coming.
Wednesday Recap: Men Outshoot Real Central NJ, Fall 1-0
It was the kind of night that makes you grateful, and a little maddened, to be a soccer fan.
Reading United AC outshot Real Central NJ 17-4 and won the corner-kick battle 8-4, but a 23rd-minute penalty was the difference in a 1-0 road defeat at Mercer County Community College. The men spent the second half camped in the attacking third, generating chance after chance, including a 92nd-minute strike that rattled the crossbar before the final whistle.
That’s two losses to start the year. It’s also a performance that suggests the goals are right around the corner. The men sit 0-2-0 heading into Saturday, with the bus already pointed back down I-78.
Saturday, May 30: Doubleheader Day
WPSL: Women vs PA Classics · 7:00 PM · Alvernia University
LEG 1 OF THE KEYSTONE DERBY
This is the one. Saturday is the first leg of the first-ever Keystone Derby, a brand-new four-match rivalry born out of the Reading United AC × PA Classics partnership announced earlier this month. Berks County vs. Lancaster County. Two clubs, one shared youth-to-pre-pro pathway, and a cup on the line that nobody has ever lifted before.
How it works: four meetings across 2026, with two WPSL legs and two USL2 legs. Saturday is Leg 1. Win the night, hold the cup… for now.
The Derby slate:
- May 30: WPSL at Reading (Alvernia)
- June 26: WPSL at PA Classics
- June 27: USL2 at Reading (Alvernia)
- July 5: USL2 at PA Classics
Some history to chew on: last season these two clubs played to a 1-1 draw in Reading and a 3-3 thriller in Lancaster. The matches between these sides have a way of getting wild. Saturday won’t be any different.
Eyes on: Sophia Zeppos leads the Golden Boot race with three goals, and Olivia Thompson sits right on her heels with two. Bring your voice.
USL2: Men at Eagle FC · 7:00 PM
Mountain View Middle School · Mechanicsburg, PA
The road stretch rolls on. Eagle FC are in their inaugural USL2 season at 0-2-1, which means both clubs are still hunting for their first win and a whole lot of pressure-release energy from kickoff. After Wednesday’s performance, this is the night to break through. Keep an eye on the socials for live updates.
