USL2 Match Recap: RUAC Dominates Chances but Falls 1–0 on the Road to Real Central NJ
WEST WINDSOR, NJ – Reading United AC Men’s 1st Team fell 1–0 on the road to Real Central NJ at Mercer County Community College, in a match where RUAC controlled large stretches of play but were unable to find the finishing touch despite a heavy statistical advantage.
Real Central NJ struck the only goal of the match in the first half, converting from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute after Luke Pompliano was brought down in the box following a long ball from Kaelan Debbage. Pompliano stepped up and finished from the spot to give the hosts a 1–0 lead.
The opening stages were balanced, with neither side creating sustained danger in the first 10 minutes and Reading flagged for a pair of early offside calls. After the goal, RUAC responded with increased attacking pressure, earning multiple set pieces and spending extended periods in the attacking third, though Real Central remained compact defensively while limited clear multiple chances.
Reading nearly equalized just before halftime when a late effort was ruled offside in the 43rd minute, keeping the score 1–0 at the break.
The second half saw Reading take control of the match territorially and offensively. RUAC consistently pushed forward, generating repeated corners and dangerous entries into the final third while keeping Real Central under pressure. Despite the momentum, the final product proved elusive.
Statistically, Reading finished with a commanding 17–4 advantage in shots and an 8–4 advantage in corner kicks, reflecting sustained attacking pressure throughout the match.
Late substitutions added fresh attacking energy, and RUAC came agonizingly close to leveling the match in stoppage time when a 92nd-minute effort rattled the crossbar. The rebound sequence and final push were ultimately halted by the final whistle moments later.
Despite dominating much of the second half and controlling possession and chances, Reading United was unable to break through, dropping a narrow 1–0 decision on the road.
With the win, Real Central NJ improves to 2-0-0 while Reading United AC falls to 0-2-0.
