United Return Home In Hopes Of Clinching Division
Wednesday’s match will be a battle between the top two teams in the Mid Atlantic Division

Reading United will look to push their home regular season win streak to 22 games when the Long Island Rough Riders come to town on Wednesday. United will also be in search of their 28th consecutive regular season game without a loss when they lace up for a 7 o’clock kick-off at Gurski Stadium. Latin Heritage Night will be prevalent throughout the stadium during the evening, with a bilingual public address by Roberto Vinces and a playlist curated by Reading United’s Latino players.
Reading faced Long Island earlier this season when they travelled across state lines and settled for a 0-0 tie at Hofstra University. The teams also matched in shots with five each and stayed relatively even across the stat sheet with fouls and corner kicks. This match counts as the only points United has dropped during their regular season schedule.
United started the 2019 season strong and kept their win streak alive last Wednesday when they travelled to Leesburg Virginia and defeated Evergreen FC 2-0. Simon Becher had another powerful offensive performance and netted his sixth goal of the season to tie him for third in the league. The victory also featured goalkeeper Jahmali Waite’s sixth shutout in as many matches, as he leads the charge for the Golden Gloves award as the best backstop in USL League Two.
Long Island are unbeaten in the month of June, running off a five match unbeaten streak. While they have managed to keep their loss column at one, their dropped points against FA Euro and Lehigh Valley United during the stretch may hurt potential playoff hopes. They face a difficult test to end their season, with six of their final seven matches on the road. They dropped points in the first match of their visiting stretch last Saturday night, when they travelled to Lehigh Valley United and ended in a 1-1 draw.
Reading is back in action at home with only two days to rest when the New York Red Bulls come to town Saturday June 29th. The night will be Hometown Heroes Night, where all local police, firemen, military, and EMTs will be admitted into the game for free. Reading defeated the Red Bulls earlier this season on the road by a 3-2 score.
