WPSL Game Recap: Reading United AC 1 – 0 Keystone FC

On Wednesday, June 3rd, Reading United AC’s WPSL squad defeated Keystone FC 1-0 at home.

In the second match of a two-game homestand, RUAC’s WPSL side looked to build on their home form and bank another three points. Much like the first-ever Keystone Derby against PA Classics, the match started slowly as both sides looked to get a feel for their opponent, two teams cut from a similar cloth, each lining up in a 4-3-3 variant to open the match.

In the opening ten minutes, RUAC were dominant on the front foot, with the majority of their success coming through the right flank. Right back Ava Sallee bombed forward to join the attack, allowing dangerous winger Ellie Leffler to cut inside. Keystone FC absorbed the pressure with a low block but never conceded.

As the match progressed, RUAC continued to pile pressure on the Keystone half. A line-splitting ball from Anna Buckwalter found Leffler perfectly in stride, who unleashed an ambitious strike towards goal, comfortably held by Keystone goalkeeper Lauren Labo. Minutes later it was Buckwalter to Leffler again, this time inside the box rather than from distance. Through on goal, Leffler rocketed a shot at the onrushing Labo, who made herself big to deny the chance. The best opportunity of the match thus far.

RUAC continued to pile pressure on the Keystone backline, but Labo came up big on multiple occasions. She denied Leilah Sallee from distance, watched a shot from a dashing Loren Gehret trickle wide, and turned away Sophia Zeppos from close range before another Leffler strike went wide. Both sides went into halftime scoreless.

In the second half, the match began to open up but the rhythm remained slow, with little meaningful action in transition. That was until a beautiful combination from Keystone’s Delaney Miller and Olivia Goretski saw Goretski cut inside, only for her shot to be blocked. Gaining some momentum, Keystone pushed for the opener, but Gatz came off her line twice to correctly deny promising attacks.

The biggest chance for Keystone came in the 68th minute when Goretski found herself through on goal with only Gatz to beat. Opting to shoot rather than round the keeper, Goretski aimed for the bottom corner, but Gatz got down low to make a tremendous save.

The match tempo began to rise, getting the crowd into it. Some substitutions, however, slowed the pace, allowing RUAC to regain momentum. Again, as was the case in the first half, Ava Sallee was a vital piece in the RUAC attack. In the 74th minute, Sallee burned her defender with a shifty move and delivered a wicked low cross through the heart of the box, leaving Labo scrambling. A close call for the breakthrough.

Nevertheless, Sallee would not be denied. Minutes later, she utilized the same move and whipped in another low cross, flicked on by striker Holly Skipper to the back post run of Meghan McGonagle. From one flank to the other, RUAC broke the deadlock in spectacular fashion.

Needing a goal, Keystone threw additional numbers forward. Chances from Gracie Sines and Abigail Wolfe troubled the RUAC backline, but Gatz had them covered. Ultimately, RUAC held on amid the late pressure to claim a huge 1-0 win at home.

RUAC’s WPSL squad continue their 2026 campaign on Wednesday, June 17th, when they travel to face Hex FC Tempest.
